Parson’s Trading Post and Museum

Parson’s Trading Post has been in the Wisconsin Dells for as long as I can remember.  As a child, I remember getting some of my best Wisconsin Dells souveniers there:  a giant wooden spear, plastic “Indian Drums,” and beaded jewelry.  As an adult, Parson’s offers much more: everything from cheap and kitchy Dells gifts to authentic Native American handcrafted items and jewelry.

Parson’s has so much to offer that it is difficult to cover it all in one post.  Native American beaders will find a huge selection of beads in all colors.  Indian jewelry lovers will find a nice selection of turquoise and silver jewelry at relatively good prices.  Leather goods from wallets to belts are sold in a huge display in the back room.  One of Parson’s nicest treasures is its selection of books which cover everything from Native American history to old-world cooking to Native arts and crafts.  Big spenders can even purchase a Native American headdress.

Parson’s is a refreshing change from the generic Wisconsin Dells gift shops that line the downtown Dells area.  It is a must-see visit for me on each of my trips to the Dells, and they do have winter hours: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
